The pinky problem
on: May 03, 2011, 01:52:38 AM
Hey guys, I just started learning piano online (lypur youtube vids, they seem pretty good? Let me know if you know anything about this guy). And I'm having some funky problems with hand position, especially the pinky. I'm just doing scales and such at this point and I'm having a lot of trouble controlling it. All my other fingers felt right so I decided to use my webcam to show my hand position from the other side, and I noticed that my entire hand was slanted so that my fingers pointed inward, which causes my pinky to be almost sideways so I was playing with my pinky like it was a thumb. I tried adjusting for this and turning my hand, but that just feels really awkward and tight. And my pinky was still a little sideways. Is this a normal thing that I'm just going to have to develop the muscles for, or is this strange and I'm on the completely wrong track? Thanks in advance.
