non-classical piano perf. opportunity in Tampa
on: August 15, 2004, 12:27:46 AM
Hi there, I don't normally post here but I am in search of a keyboard player who is perhaps bored with classical performance opportunities and might like to try something different. If you live in Tampa or anywhere in central Florida this might be a fun thing for you to do.
I am a classical singer(I did a BFA at Carnegie Mellon in classical voice and an MFA at Birmingham Conservatoire in England in classical voice) and have worked for various companies such as Atlanta Opera. Anyway, I found that I wasn't really enjoying the classical world so I decided to try something different. I have always enjoyed the metal genre and when I heard a band called Nightwish(opera and metal mixed) I decided to seek a similar opportunity for myself. I joined a band called "Royal Anguish" and, though it doesn't sound at all like Nightwish, it does combine opera and metal. Anyway, we recently lost our keyboard player who was not able to keep up with the level of devotion in the band and we are now looking for a new one.
The music would be quite simple for you to learn, but you do have a ton of creative license to have fun and make your own lines. Some of the members of the band are classically trained, like myself, and others work exclusively by ear but we work as a team and have a fantastic time. We are playing a ton of live gigs in Florida and, thus, you will have great deal of performance opportunity. You will probably need to get your own keyboard if you don't already have one.
One final comment...many people associate metal with drugs and immorality..but this band is very clean so you should have no concerns of that kind. None of us drink or smoke or engage in any other habits.(Being a classical singer, I would not be amused if they did. (= )
Anyway, if you'd like to chat..please e-mail me and let me know if you are interested. My e-mail is
