Need advice for next pieces
on: May 18, 2011, 01:55:11 PM
I've just done Scarlatti's K70. Currently practcing Mozart Sonata in A minor K310 and I'll start Cramer etude Op.60 N. 23

I'm looking for fast (not too fast, but not too slow) pieces, no more then 6 minutes longer, of any period.

Some pieces that are similiar: Brahms - Op. 118 N. 3 'Ballade', Fantaisie Impromptu,  the mozart i'm doing

Some pieces that I did early are February - Tchaikovsky, Fantaisie Impromptu, Revolutionary Etude, bach inventions, Bach Sinfonia 15, Alla Turca, Waltz in B minor (chopin).

btw, where can i found recordings of Cramer Etudes? I couldnt find it on amazon or even on youtube.

If you're looking to be constantly playing lots of new pieces, a good idea is getting a book of stuff that's a level or two below you, and then running through it.  I'm not sure which Country you're in, but if you have piano exam books, maybe pick one of those up.  They'll have a lot of pieces from each time period; you can find music that you've definitely heard, and maybe new stuff you've never even heard of.

If you have the RCM system, you should look at maybe the Grade 9 or 10 books.  I think Trinity System would have roughly the same grading, and ABRSM.

Look at some Schubert - Impromptus in Ab+ and Eb+; or Tchaikovsky 'June'
Another Bach Sinfonia or a prelude and fugue (C-, D+ book 1)
Beethoven Rondo in C major
Debussy - Fille au Cheveux de Lin, Arabesque #1, Reverie

A lot of music has fast and slow sections, but that isn't the main focus of the work.  Find some youtube playlists, or just go nuts with the 'related videos' function and see what you can come across.
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

Countrymath,

Perdoa meu portugues inadequado.

Boa sorte,

Bill

dear country,
go to https://www.naxosmusiclibrary.com/, take a 15 minute preview, and search for cramer. there is a CD by Pamela Resch with studies, among other recordings.
