PROLOGUE

About MKI Competition - Teguh Sukaryo Music Awards: Year 2011 marks the first MKI Competition - Teguh Sukaryo Music Awards. It is an e-competition and is made for real easy access with ZERO application fee. A multi-disciplinary music contest, MKI Competition is open to all citizens of ASEAN countries and Australia. If you are looking for a classical music competition which requires no age limit and yet offers a good number of performance opportunities, you have just found one!

 

About MKI: MKI stands for Musik Klasik Indonesia. It is the largest, most educative and informative classical music group in Indonesia. This non profit music organization consists of musicians, teachers, critics, classical music lovers, and also a number of truly devoted volunteers who help administer and run the group without a penny in return! MKI's mission is to introduce classical music to every Indonesian, i.e. to promote classical music across archipelago. OPEN TO:

4) Chamber musicians

Chamber music requirements: 1) A maximum of four players; 2) Chamber music with piano is definitely welcome. However, assessment will only be available for the instrumentalist(s) other than the pianist. For example: Collaboration works between a singer and a pianist: We will only consider the singer. (Hence, an interested pianist would need to audition separately, i.e. as a soloist)

 

COMPETITION DEADLINES:

Preliminary round: October 01 - October 31, 2011
Final round: November 05 - November 15, 2011 (Maximum 6 finalists)
Winner's announcement: November 18, 2011

 

HOW TO APPLY:

1.  Fill out and sign application form.
2.  Submit application form together with a photocopy of your ID or passport to the Secretary of MKI, Ms. Alicia Kurniasari, via email: lezz_music@live.com
3.  Post your youtube videos or audio files on MKI wall (see REPERTOIRE) during the Preliminary Round: https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_161760533252

 

REPERTOIRE:

Preliminary Round

A total of approximately 30 minutes worth of music of applicant's own choice.

It is highly recommended that repertoire will include music in a variety of styles and periods. Selections need to demonstrate the applicant’s breadth of technical and artistic abilities. Singers must include selections in at least three languages, one of which must be English. There is no aria requirement, and no more than two operatic arias may be included.

 

Final Round

Instrumentalists: A total of approximately 20 minutes worth of music of application's own choice. Applicants may not repeat repertoire from the previous round.

Singer: Selection of lieder and operatic arias with a minimum duration of 20 minutes. Applicants may not repeat repertoire from the previous round.

 

SELECTION

Applicants will be accepted to the Final Round of the competition on the basis of evaluations of the posted youtube videos or audio files by independent judges. Notification regarding advancement to the Final Round will be posted on MKI wall on November 04, 2011. Finalists will need to post their videos or audio files during the Final Round.

 
In order to be considered for this contest, applicant must be available for travel and performance at various dates throughout the year 2012. We will try our best to place concerts systematically so to provide convenience and reduce travel cost, nonetheless there is no guarantee of such.

 
Titles, movements, and the composer(s) of performed pieces must be typed on the video or audio file caption. Original pieces are welcome.

 

TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION AND BOARD EXPENSES

Competitors are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and board expenses.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. It is applicant's responsibility to provide with the best possible video quality. Poor video quality could jeopardize applicant's chance to the final round and/or winning the competition.
2. No Application fee.
3. There is only one winner, or one group of winners in the case of chamber music.
4. The winner(s) would need to consult with the chair of the jury and seeks his approval as to what program shall be chosen for their concert engagements. In case of any disagreement in the programming, winner must comply with the discretion of the jury chair.
5. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
