Medtner

I've heard from a number of pianists positive references to Medtner's music, but confess a relative ignorance of his works...

Are there any places online with audio/midi files of some of his piano music?  PDF's?  I'm especially curious about his "night wind" sonata.

There are a few solo piano works here:

I think Dover has his complete Fairy Tales and Complete Sonatas for fairly inexpensive.  I have the complete fairy tales.  They are interesting - very diverse in mood and such.  I couldn't find many mp3s a year or so ago when I was looking for them.  The best I could do was use Amazon.com or iclassics.com to get 1-minute sound samples.
When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.

Woah, someone at Karadar wasn't paying much attention. For Six Tales, they wrote Sex Tales! *laughs and giggles* Anyways, I once tried to sight read a Medtner Sonata, the form was very interesting, although the piece itself wasn't...

Medtner's music is indeed a hidden treasure. All his sonatas are uniquely wonderful ( there are 14 of them).

The new (8th) Chandos CD of Medtner's piano works is released, played by Geoffrey Tozer. A great pianist, even more laudable for tackling this ravishing but-alas! difficult repertory. This CD includes the Improvisation no.2 in the form of variations op.47 (one of Medtner's greatest works, greatly admired by Rachmaninov and whose fantastical variations bear titles such as "Elves", "Gnomes", "Storm" and "Charms"). Earl Wild has performed this same work on disc as well, his rendition being more stormy but equally powerful.

Also included are the op.54 Romantic Sketches for the Young, 2 (Fairy) Tales op.8 and the 3 Arabesques op.7.
