Looking for "Tea for Two" by Horowitz
on: May 27, 2011, 06:01:30 AM
I've read in the Internet that Horowitz had associates with the famous Jazz pianist Art Tatum.

Tatum is also known for his many recordings of "Tea for Two", a 1930s jazz standard. Apparently, Horowitz, after being stunned by the genius of Tatum, attempted to make his own transcriptions of "Tea for Two". He played it to Tatum, and vice versa; after being mesmerized by how well Tatum played "tea for two" Horowitz immediately asked him for his transcriptions of "Tea for Two" but Tatum instead said "I was only improvising".

Anyway, I'm always curious as to how a Classical great interprets this standard. Does anyone have a copy or recording of him available for download (free)? There's one here, at 2:30, but it's merely Horowitz playing a random improvisation by ear, which kinda ends in him getting off the tone  ;D.

So has anyone have a recording of Horowitz' tea for two, or a video of it on the internet?

Thanks.

There is a clip in the documentary Horowitz: A Reminiscence.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
