Suggestion Diabolique
on: June 04, 2011, 09:37:16 AM
How hard is it to play Prokofiev's "Suggestion Diabolique"? Is it much harder than Rachmaninov's Prélude Op. 23 Nr. 5 or Rachmaninov's Prélude Op. 3 Nr.2 ?
Thx.

It is pretty difficult. Much harder than those two preludes IMO.

It is not that difficult. The most important thing here is relaxation. If you tense up you are going to injure yourself. Like other works by Prokofiev, there are descending minor thirds, and good fingering is quite important.
Great show piece though.

There are so many drastically different sections in this piece, so it's hard to say how it would compare difficulty wise. There are lots of double notes, lots of chords, fast contrary passages, glissandi lol! It's kind of a beast, but again you could look at it like this: there aren't any extensively long passages using one technical demand
