Joingly C - a bit of a whinge
on: June 04, 2011, 11:03:24 PM
My middle C has suddenly gone "joingly" - you know, like that crappy old piano that your aunt had.
I hope it can be fixed. I noticed it when I started using pedal last night. :( Now I can't play my Grieg. :(

Here comes the whinge ...
I blame the kid next door, who thinks that pianos are to be whacked as hard as possible. Every time this kid comes over we get a new rule in this house
* don't chase the aged cat
* don't chase the chickens
* close the back gate
* don't use up our download limit
* don't leave the taps running in the garden
* don't throw toys in the tree

I never knew we had so many rules until this little so and so started visiting.

Sigh .. I hope my piano can be fixed.  :(

Perhaps he knocked that note out of tune or if one,or both, of the unisons are flat will make it sound strange. Mute all but one of those strings and check it against a c you know is in tune,then check the other strings of that note to see if they match up.

I agree. If it the key depresses and rebounds normally and nothing in the action feels blocky, its probably just out of tune. I turned in my a/c for 3 days in a row when it went to 90 degrees and it knocked my piano out of tune. No problem, for I tune pianos, but heat, humidity and a sudden drop in either with the a/c on takes its toll. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks everyone, that makes me feel better. I worry because we used to have an old piano that went out of tune 10 mins after it was tuned, and it always sounded joingly! But my much newer yamaha should be OK right? I will try not to let it worry me and just ring the tuner. :)
