Practicing
on: June 10, 2011, 05:14:49 AM
Hey there,
I currently am learning jazz piano and I have some issues with practicing
I find it hard to find time in my week to practice! On average I'd say I would get in about 30 minutes of practice or less a week :P I blame part of this to laziness, a part of it to not having a real piano to practice on and part of it with my busy schedule.

I am currently playing on a 61-key, non graded yamaha PSR-270 portable keyboard. My other piano is an ancient Newcombe, extremely out of tune and un playable. I'm saving up for a digital piano but thats probably not a realistic idea until Christmas 2011. My question is this: How can i find the motivation to practice with my crappy piano, laziness and busy schedule?

If you need motivation to play then youll keep needing motivation everytime you run out. Make the motivation a mental picture of the skills you wish to have and keep playing til you get there. These motivations last way longer.

And...just do it.

I believe I have motivation to do it. I aspire to be able to play as well as my teacher does one day, but laziness and stuff gets in the way :(

Do you live with anyone who could tell you to do your practice every day? Also setting aside a particular time each day to do it helps, for example early in the morning, or after dinner in the evening.

If you can't practise due to a busy work schedule then that is fine. But not practising because you don't have the greatest instrument or LAZINESS!!??
Come on
If laziness stops you from playing then maybe you don't really want to play because if you did then something as silly as laziness would not stop you playing and practising.
