Introduction
on: June 15, 2011, 01:59:00 PM
Hello everyone,
I would like to introduce myself to you all.
My name is Carl and I live in Belgium, I'm 22 years young and I work as a consultant for a software company.
I started playing the piano in February 2010 and I must admit that is changed my life for the better. In my youth I never came in contact with classical music or just intrumental for that matter. No one of my friends or family plays an instrument and as a child I practiced sports with my friend. As a result of this I never had the pleassure to get a musical education.
Starting from my late teens I was getting more and more into instrumental music, especially the piano and I've always found it truly amazing if I saw a pianist perform. Back then I was still at school and I thought that I had long missed my chance to start playing myself. Also my parents, who both worked hard to provide my sister and myself of everything we needed, could not afford to buy me a piano. My dream at that time was basically unreachable.
After getting my first job I just HAD to start playing, the feelings I got when listening to piano music were getting stronger everyday. Off I went to the nearest music store, knowing absolutely nothing about piano's or what I should look for. I decided to buy a digital piano (Yamaha p-88), as I could not forsee that this was something that I really wanted and the investment of an acoustic was to great back then.
After 1 month I found a great private teacher, a lovely women of the respected age of 84 when I met her, playing since she was 4 years old and a music/piano teacher her whole life. I started taking lessons 1 hour per week and the passion kept growing. After 1 year I finished the entire 'Anna Magdalena Notebook' and Czerny Etudes Op. 849. Around that time I've recieved great compliments about my progress and she claim I have some talent in my which made my passion even stronger.
Tho my technique was still lacking concering good tone. She claimed this was due to my digital piano. February 2011 I bought my first acoustic piano (Grotrian Steinweg upright), and my tone is getting better by the week.
As of that point I started learning more serious compositions with her and I'm still having more fun everyday.
My main reason for joining this nice forum is that I still do not have any friend who are into classical music or play an instrument. So I would like to get to know people who share the same passion I do, greatly looking forward to it.
Kind regards,
Carl
