Noir Musical: 2 original compositions
on: June 16, 2011, 06:33:17 PM
Hey guys, it's been a long while since I've posted. I doubt anyone remembers me, but I was here a few months ago looking for help with learning to read sheet music and all of that. I've played almost entirely by ear almost my entire life. I do know chording, notes, rhythm exc... but I can't sight read fluently (I have to find middle C and count haha).

So with that said, I've been working with a friend on a short film piece, a film noir musical.

If you are familiar with the genre, it's a 1920s German film style that dealt with the pressing anxieties of a post world war 2 era. The classic noir that everyone thinks about, is the private eye films, with that gruff private eye narration at the beginning. This is the kind of film/musical that we are making.

I would love feedback and help, and I want to continue working on my sheet music skills, so I do want to notate these.

First piece -

Dynamics were difficult just because I'm recording it on a non weighted keyboard... sigh... But anyway this would be the introduction song that sets the tone and mood for the entire piece.

Second piece -

This is to build suspense and create mystery around the leading female fem fatal character. Then it leads into the private eye's first vocal part. The title is "I Don't Do Murder."

Thanks for any feedback/help you guys can give me.
