Piano Tuning

Has anyone been upset at their piano tuner? I run a piano tuning company at https://pittsburgh-piano-tuning.com and just wondered.

It has happened, I'm sure!

A few years ago, my usual tuner/tech was unavailable for over a year, so I was forced to have someone else tune for me.  This tuner arrived, tried the piano and commented on the way it sounded.  I told him I liked this sound, but apparently he didn't, so he 'fixed' to his liking.

Was I upset? A little I suppose, but maybe he just wasn't good enough to tune it and keep the tone I liked.  Tunings will sound different from tuner to tuner, it's an art I'm glad someone else does, it would drive me nuts (not a long trip any more).  I had it retuned a couple months later by the tuner that maintained the piano my parents owned, and I learned on, and it was remarkable how good that sounded.  Sadly that tuner wasn't often available in my area, then died a few years later.

Of course I never hired that tuner again, and have continued to this day with my usual tech (more than 30 yrs now) who will tune it however I ask him too.
