popular sheet music
on: July 04, 2011, 02:57:57 PM
Hey guys,
Let's imagine I want to download sheet music for a song, for example, 'I don't like mondays'. I always seem to find sheet music which incorporates the lyrics into the piano, whereas what I really want is the piano backing to sing over the top.
Does anybody know of any good resources for these type of sheets? I have spent a long time searching and nothing.
Thanks

Not sure if it helps, but with my kids in mind whenever I am in a music store I look at the pop music books for solo instrumentalists.
These books often have a separate piano accompaniment book, which might be what you are looking for (though I can't say I've seen "I don't like Mondays").

Usually when accompanying a singer I just make it up, especially with pop/Jazz music, So I will get an accurate chord chart or lead sheet and just make it up around what the singer is doing, so i would learn the main motifs and parts that are integral but the rest is then improvised and I think you'll find this is how most people tend to do it, i don't know anyone who learns popular music note for note from sheet
