The music is a jazzy variation on Satie's Gymnopedie 2. It was played on a synth.

It is not Satie's Gymnopedie No.2, jazzed up notwithstanding.

Technically I'd say it's loosely based on 'a' gymnopedie for the most part.

It has the recurring bass note and chord in a 1 - 2  (3) rhythm with an almost improvisational melody over the top of the music.

So I'd say it's based on a Gymnopedie, but relatively free to not infringe copyright   :)

Actually, Satie's music is public domain: you can do whatever you want to it.

But I miss my point: this is not Satie, and the style does not sound even close to his. The starting vamp perhaps, but then it goes to a direction that makes me think of no piece by Satie that I know.

Of course, I assume that Satie is a surprise: perhaps someone will bang me in the head with the score of the music signed by him :P.

Best regards,
Jay.

I took a look at the link when this thread was first posted and thought it sounded rather like the Satiesque riff from Japan's "Nightporter". I figured that if it were actually Satie someone would pin it down fairly quickly, but maybe it really is something like that: a modern "rip-off" hommage rather than an original work.
In the interests of full disclosure: I do not play the piano (at all).
