Less Known Piano Composers from the 20th Century
on: July 09, 2011, 11:58:39 AM
Hi Everyone!!! I'd like to ask if anyone knows piano composers or pieces from the 20th century that are nice to play and can be learnt in a week or so. Pieces that come from less known composers from 20th century :) maybe 2 minutes more or less

Thanks ;)

Luke

Its for a competition, and I like pieces that show musicality since its close curtain adjudication.

I'd suggest you take a look at the Shostakovich Preludes Op. 34. They're all short pieces and not - to the best of my knowledge - overwhelmingly difficult. Maybe the D Flat? While Shostakovich is hardly a "less known" composer of the twentieth century, those works are not hackeyed, and you could manage a couple if the rubric allows.

It does sort of depend on what you consider to be "fun to play" and "less known" though.
In the interests of full disclosure: I do not play the piano (at all).

Jeno Takacs (1902-2005), Austrian-Hungarian.

Lots of great and easy piano music.

For example, Kleine Sonate op. 51, Toccata op. 54 (pretty difficult to master in a week), and Klange und Farben op. 95.

I suggest you take a look at his music.

Bach: Toccata BWV 914
Beethoven: Sonata op. 57
Liszt: HR 12
Rachmaninoff: Prelude op. 32 no. 12
Prokofiev: Suggestion Diabolique
Liszt: La Campanella
Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto no. 2, op. 18
