“The Sound Always Comes First” — Andrea Bonatta on Teaching Liszt

Why tone matters more than speed, why reading Goethe matters as much as practising octaves, and how a single insight can transform a performance. rythmically interesting music

Hey there! Could anyone recomend some music you think are rythmically interesting (or rhythms you like)? Could be anything like lots of syncopation, polyrhythm, unusual time signatures, changes in time signatures and so on.

So,any suggestions?

Just about anything for solo piano by Olivier Messiaen is worth a look.

I've played 'Cantéyodjayâ' and 'Neumes rhythmiques', #3 from Quatre études de rythme ("Four studies in rhythm"). They are fun to play and rhythmically very interesting.

Check out Gershwin.

If you are looking for non-typical time signature, look at Debussy's La Cathedrale Engloutie from Preludes. ;)

Some of Brahms pieces contain intersting and challenging rhythmic features and Scriabin's music is absolutely full of them.

What about the Bartok piano sonata? I played it this year and at some stages (especially the first mvt) the time signature will change every bar  :)
