I may be buying a baby grand piano and I don't really know anything at all about pianos so thought I should get some advice.

The baby grand piano is a Yamaha G3E Ebony Baby Grand Piano. The serial code is E5301699.

The piano was originally free as the man was moving to another state and wanted to get rid of it quickly. But apparently the removalist company made a mistake (they delivered it to his new home) and now I will have to pay $400 to $600 for them to deliver it to me. To me that still sounds like a great deal for such a nice piano, but I really know nothing about them (My partner is going to take up lessons). He says the piano is in perfect condition for use and the photos he sent me looked good.

What questions should I ask this person? Is this a good investment? Let me know what you think? Does this sound like a scam or could this person sincerely just want to get rid of the piano quickly?

Thanks!!!

May not be to good to be true.Lot of people will give up a large piano for the room.Is the man your getting from play?If so then I would ask the reason for wanting it gone. You can have a tech in that area check it out for 50 bucks give or take.If the sound board is cracked or some loose pins in the pinblock a tech could tell you.If it is descent shape I say take it.The only deal breaker for me would be a major problem like the ones I stated above.

Get a tech to check out the piano and give an official report.  Preferably it will be your trusted tech, and the person you wish to be doing all your tunings, voicing, regulation, etc.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

If it's in good shape and the soundboard along with the frame is intact, go for it. A checkup by a good local tech goes without saying...

I had a G3 for years and LOVED it!  If it's in even barely good shape, it's a great deal for you!  If you decide not to go for it, let us know; I'm sure somebody'd jump on it!
