tell me what you think
on: August 25, 2004, 02:56:03 PM
ok i've painted this series of artworks that are based on the fact that there is more to music than just playing notes and the feelings created for the audience when listening to classical music and the images they can imagine out of the music. what i want to know is if you, since you are all musicians of some sort, think that i have managed to convey this idea successfully or not. now the quality of these pics aren't that great- the colours are a bit brighter and they're bigger of course (the top face is actually much bigger than the rest), so you're not going to get the full effect of them. but just tell me what you think, if you want to see them bigger then just say so.

thanks heaps!

Can you enlarge the one that is in the middle, on the bottom row?  That one kind of "grabs me".

From this view, I'd say your work is excellent!!  and you know from my other posts I always state my most sincere opinion.

I would like to see an enlargement of the tall skinny one, far right, second row from the bottom, as well as the hands playing piano.

aw thanks donjuan! gotten some larger versions for you

https://server5.uploadit.org/files/tanasha-hands.jpg

https://server5.uploadit.org/files/tanasha-purpleballet.jpg

https://server5.uploadit.org/files/tanasha-albumblatt.jpg

the hands are actually painted inside the pupil of this giant eye except due to the face that i don't have a digital camera and my scanner is too small to fit the whole thing i just cropped it to the hands, so just imagine then in this big dark greeny blue eye!!

as for everyone else, PLEASE respond i don't care if you tell me it's crap provided you give me a reason cos all i want to do is find out how i can improve my art since it is the audience rather than me who gets to look and criticise it!

Tash, I love the Ballet works, they are so dreamy and free.  However, with the hands, I would contrast the light a little more- put in subtle whites and maybe even soft yellow highlights on the ridges of the knuckles -speaking of highlights and light sources, make the light source more definate- is it coming from the left, the right, the top, what color light is it and what effect does it have on the hands? -Is the light like a moonlight- silverly blue (that would look really beautiful upon the keys! ;)).  When the light source is more defined, you can develop the shadows of the hands better. Spread/darken the shadows not with black, but dark, and I mean DARK greens and blues.  However, they must be easily noticed they are not a part of the back ground, so even dark browns would help.
What medium did you use for this work?
I finished Art 30 here in Canada with 98% if that means anything...

now that's what i like to hear donjuan! yeah i can see where you're coming from with the hands- it is a bit brighter in real life but i probably could have highlighted it a bit more- who knows where the light is coming from my friend took it in music at school once (they're my hands) in a very poorly lit room. there's no black used in it whatsover- the shadows for the hands is viridian green and the background and keys is some mix of various browns and greens and reds and who knows what else! that's oils on canvas, the others are watercolour and gouache which i do like better. but thanks for that wow 98% congrats!

You're welcome!  :) Just remember you NEVER draw the light source as it is, or else the work is not as effective.  Decide on a light source immediately, and everything you do- the colors you choose, the background color, the direction of the shadows, - it will all have a direct link with the light source.

Best Wishes,

I would love to put some up for you!

I have pictures of some of my work on digital camera.  Can you help me put it up?  What did you do?  I know I have to get some webspace somewhere, but it all seems so confusing to me.

oh cool!
ok well what i did was whoever told about the www.uploadit.com i went to and chose the demo thing cos i am stingy and refuse to pay for anything on the internet but that's fine for me cos the only restriction is that you can't have anything bigger than 2KB's i think, so provided you just shrink it a bit then it's fine. so it should tell you what to do. and then when posting them up here click the little 'insert image' button and get rid of the word URL in the thingo and replace it with the web address thingy you get when you upload your image. does that make sense? i dunno what any of the technical terms for all that are so yes...

ok, I have a geocities page (or at least I think I do...)
go to this site:

https://www.geocities.com/orienlee87/10075144.jpg

and let me know if a picture of the Earth rising from the moon is visible.  I havent yet got my artwork on the computer- I have to figure out how to get it from the camera to the computer-, but if the sample picture works, then I will get the artwork up asap.

Ok, I have a few pictures to show you.  when you first open them up, they will seem huge, but if you wait a second or so it should fit the screen..

You may run into problems....If the message "The web site you are trying to access has exceeded its allocated data transfer" appears, wait a while and come back later.
Also, for some reason, the goldfish one hasnt been working out- the message "The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request" appears sometimes, so...I dont know- I hope you are able to see some of them at least..

Self Portrait - Acrylic paint on paper (the books you see on the sides are to stop the paper from curling during the photo. lol)

I have lots more, If you were able to see them let me know if you want more.

Thanks for the compliment!  I am trying to put up my other ones, but I ran into some problems- for some reason the webpage I put them on is "unavailable".  I will try again tomorrow- Maybe it has something to do with maximum usage of the site in one day...

grrr... too bad.  Do you know how to minimize these pictures?  I mean, each one of them is 1.7 MB.  I went to uploadit.org, and everything was nice and simple, but they dont give me enough room.

no no no,, I wasnt clear enough-
I mean, how do I make the file smaller (not the physical dimentions of the photo) through making the resolution worse.

Its ok....

oh yeah that's just how i do it. i think you can compress them which halves the size, but i'm not completely sure how to do that...
