Most beautiful piece of Scriabin
on: July 20, 2011, 02:55:57 PM
Hello.
In your opinion, what is the most beautiful piece of Scriabin?
My vote goes for his little prelude num. 15 in D flat major Op 11.
It is so charming!!

I'd like to know your opinions please.

See you.
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

Difficult question to answer.  Perhaps Sonata No. 8 - those harmonies!
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

The Andante from his third sonata is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful pieces of music in the entire keyboard repetoire.

The B major prelude Op 11, No 11 is irresistably romantic.
Sonata No 4 has a definite exoticism to it.

My vote: Sonata No 3 F-sharp minor
One is tempted to cast more than one vote when it comes to beautiful pieces by Scriabin

2nd sonata first movement!!!!

Desire and caresse dansee are very interesting. Listen a few times and you'll start catching those stacking 4ths and all the rich harmonies that accompany them.

I agree with the 8th sonata... Those runs of parallel 4ths in the right hand are so mysterious! It's perfect in the atmosphere of the piece.

Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

I just love his piano concerto. It's very easily equal with the great Rachmaninoff concertos.

doesn't get a lot of attention but the etude in F# from Op 42 (no 4) is just plain lovely to listen to, i don't get tired of it.

it's probably a more fair question to ask for favorites from each 'compositional' period, since although they're all great 'ice cream' we've definitely got very different 'groups of flavors' to choose from.

Wow, nice one. Another one, although doesn't fit the description of beautiful: prelude no 14 from op 11.

Prometheus, The Poem of Fire

But in the end I'll stick with this one AND the Poem of Ecstasy Op. 54
Two monumental pieces of art I've been listening to many dozens of times in the last months.
I can't get enough of them. It has enriched my life.
(I recommend the recordings from Riccardo Muti and the Philadelphia orchestra)

Most of his preludes, mazurkas and etudes are Ok. Haven't heard his sonatas though.
