Bach, sinfonia 15
on: July 23, 2011, 08:29:33 AM
I fell in love with Sinfonia 15 and would like to learn it.

Compared to the Inventions I find it somewhat difficult, however in the Piano Street music library it is grade 5, the same as Invention 1. I find it technically more demanding than Invention 1.

In the Henle edition Invention 1 is grade 3 whereas Sinfonia 15 is grade 5 (on a scale from 1 to 9).

Is this only a subjective impression?

Is it possible to go from invention 1 directly to Sinfonia 15 ?

Greets

Hm...  Well, for what it's worth, when my professor and I were studying the inventions, the first one we started with was Invention No. 1.  After I learned that, he had me play Sinfonia No. 15 to gauge just how advanced an invention I could play - and I learned it fairly quickly, though I am still shaky on the part where you have to cross your hands (it is very tricky).  However, when I began studying the Inventions, I had self-taught myself for years... so take that into consideration as well.

I do believe it's possible, but to me it would be similar to learning Mozart's K545 sonata and then jumping to the Turkish March - you may want to work your way up a bit if you find Sinfonia No. 15 a bit too daunting!
