Barber Souvenirs for solo piano
on: July 23, 2011, 10:29:46 AM
I jsut came across this work, and I really like it, and I think it would be great as a concert piece. Though, just a rather stupid question (I've searched the forum, but couldn't find any answer)- Is it a competition piece? I mean, is it difficult enough for a serious piano competition?

And please, no trolling or "depends on how well you play it". This isn't meant to become a great discussion about how to become a great pianist technique wise, or the point of piano competitions. I just want a simple and quick answer.

I'd also appreciate if someone could give me some information about the piece, like which year it was composed and so on :)

I belive it was first composed for piano duet......then arranged for solo piano  and then orchestra. I like the duet version the best. Have you looked into the Excursions, Nocturnes, or the Ballade? Great pieces....make good competition pieces too.

Yes, it's a piano duet at first... Do you know when it was composed?

I'm aware of the Ballade, and was about to play it last year, but didn't have the time. And I've heard the other pieces, but I couldn't say that I know them.

Thank you for the comment!
