I realize there are tons of other incredibly challenging studies, but I'm curious as to see what people find most difficult out of these 10 sets that I've listed. Feel free to comment additional repertoire

Difficult is very subjective. And difficulty based on what? Based solely on technical issues? or taking the musical aspects into account as well ?

The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

If you take only take one of those into account, or take them all into account, you get the same set. The Ligeti etudes take the cake in all cases.

Like I mentioned before, I only included 10 sets (only for the purpose of making sure this list wouldn't become too lengthy.) Scriabin's op. 42 is incredible, and there are several other sets of virtuosic etudes that could easily deserve a spot on this list. Even the highly criticized and overlooked Czerny op. 740 is loaded with fantastic technique. If it's really bothering someone that a certain opus isn't on the list, just vote for another set by the same composer, or vote for your second option.
