Hi everyone !

Here is a video (that is not new, but I am on this forum :) ) of me playing my transcription (almost note for note) of Gershwin's piano roll "Sweet and Lowdown".

Hope you enjoy ! (And if you liked it, check out my version of the famous Czardas !)

That was wonderful.  I liked it very much!  Nothing like the sweet and low down in his song book.  Did you transcribe it yourself from the piano roll?  That must have been hard.  I would like to play that.  I wonder if the sheet music exists.
You have a very natural technique and it was quite brilliant playing!

Thanks ! :)

I transcribed this from a MIDI file a long time ago... and lost the sheet music a few years ago (which is why I recorded it: it is leaving my fingers !). If I find the midi scan I will write it again.

Artis Wodehouse has a transcription of gershwin's recording that is nearer from this version (almost note for note at many places) and a transcription of the roll (so almost note for note what I play here) that she arranged as a duet.

very good

How did you record it with so high audio quality?

Were you using headphones?

has the video some cuts or i'm seeing too much?

Hey !

For the recording: I have a silent piano, meaning it's acoustic but I can play with headphones too.
I used headphones, and I pluged the second headphones output directly on the mic input of my computer and recorded it using the software Audacity.
So the sound you hear is synthetic ( but nicer than my out-of-tune piano anyway :) ). Note that the piano is 14 years old and that Yamaha did an awesome work with the sound at the time !

I took the video separately with a camera and then put everything together on my computer.

And yes there are two cuts, actually I mixed 2 recordings because I was not happy with some parts of each (but don't tell anyone, will you ?;) ).

I'll keep your secret :)

The sound is really good. The piano sounds natural.

Wow, Gershwin spirit is really there. I think I have the sheet music of this, it sounds pretty similar, played it a few times but found it pretty difficult, you inspired me to have a look at it again.

The book I have has about 8 improvisations of gershwin.
studying:

Beethoven sonata no. 1 op. 2
Bach Prelude and Fugue in g-major, WTCII
Schumann fantasie stucke op.12 (no. 1,2)

I am not at home now, but I found it quite easy using google:

the cover is exactly the same as what I have
studying:

Beethoven sonata no. 1 op. 2
Bach Prelude and Fugue in g-major, WTCII
Schumann fantasie stucke op.12 (no. 1,2)

Piano Street Magazine:
The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more
