Music schools for mature student
on: August 03, 2011, 08:24:29 PM
Are there any music schools in the UK for which mature students (I'm 30) can apply to?

I think it may indeed be possible to apply part time to a music college.  The Birmingham Music Conservatoire used to offer lessons for part time students so it may be worth enquiring there, although I must admit, I'm looking back quite a few years!  I'm not sure about the other colleges.

If you can't find a part time course, then it might be worth enquiring at one of the music colleges to find out if any of the piano teachers there offer private lessons.  Or they might be able to point you in the right direction.   It's certainly worth at try!

I believe that under anti-ageism legislation they're not allowed to bar you by reason of age. Speaking from direct personal experience, Goldsmiths College music department has, in the time I've been associated with it, had at least one student on a regular undergraduate course who was well over the retirement age.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.

Goldsmiths is more research based thought isn't it? What about the Royal College of Music or Royal Academy?

You could ask random people on the internet (who you obviously hate a lot) or you could mail the schools you're interested in...

You've said you do, but we should probably not listen to that... Since you're very sorry after every time. Anyway, I think asking the faculty is the best thing to do.
