Bach - Prelude and Fugue in F# major, BWV858 (WTC I)

the prelude and fugue in F# major from the first book.  this is one of the loveliest preludes and fugues, the prelude is a simple tw-part invention with a beautiful cadential figure that we hear in three different keys.  the fugue has a heartfelt countersubject with gentle repeated notes which generates the most beautiful sequence in the second half of the fugue.
just lovely!

A wonderful interpretation, very much in the spirit of Bach, I think!
"A heartfelt countersubject with gentle repeated notes" yes, so well said, and played! I often noticed too that Bach is able to express incredible things through gently repeated notes :)

I agree, you've presented this quite nicely.  you have clearly taken Schumann's instruction regarding Bach to heart, "make the well-tempered clavier your daily bread."

This is one of my favorite preludes and fugues, and you played it beautifully.

A s. richter-like interpretation of the prelude.... ie about as good as it gets.

listening now to the fugue... an unusually slow, contemplative reading... no problem in that... actually makes the fugue more difficult to get across, I think.   It works.  And one of the great moments in Bach ... too... all of which comes across... good stuff... very, very good stuff...

In a year from now, though, I wonder whether you'll be playing it a bit faster?
