Chopin trills
on: August 28, 2004, 06:52:23 AM
Dear friends,

I wanted to post the following question.  How do you play the trills at the last episode of Chopin's First Piano Concerto, the left hand.  For example, is it ok to just play a "mordente" (acciacatura) or is it strictly required to play a double trill plus its conclusion.  For example, if the trill is to be played (left hand) over "B", my question is whether due to the tempo, we should play it "b-c-b-a#-b", or anyway the complete trill: "b-c-b-c-b-a#-b".  Thank you very much in advance.

It's not really important.  Chopin's ornementations are not meant to be strict.  I've heard different ways of doing it.  Personally I believe I was doing b-c-b-c-b-c-a#-b.
