Competition Repertoire
on: August 16, 2011, 01:32:36 AM
I live in India, and there is a Piano Competition coming up in November. I'm taking part in the intermediate level competition. Please suggest a good repertoire for me. (Pieces should be around 4-11 minutes long)
Baroque- 3 pieces
Classical - 3 pieces
Romantic 3 pieces
Modern (20th century, including Prokofiev or Rachmaninoff)- 2 pieces.

i need to know your level?

Baroque - Bach's Chromatic fantasy and fugue in d, Preludes and fugues...

Classic - Mozart variations or fantasie? or Beethoven, Appasionata 3rd mov etc...

Romantic - Chopin's Etude(your choice) some piece by him? waltz, polonaise, prelude?
Liszt Etude UN SOSPIRO - thats the real piece for the recital ;)
                 Schumann Papillions or Carnaval
Mendelssohn Rondo Capriccioso, or song without words....
Modern - hmmm, Rach moment in e minor, preludes? and why not some debussy? preludes, or some jazzy pieces  8) GOOD LUCK

How are any of those pieces, except for Brahms and maybe Liszt, easy?

oh, i never said they were easy at all, i just suggested some stuff... nothing is easy...

easy could be then:
bach partita 1
tocatta e minor (the easiest one)
or p&f no. 1 and 2

mozart twinkle twinkle star variations =P love them
beethoven sonata 1

and romantic chopin prelude no. 20 or 22
rach op. 3 no. 2
prokofieff op. 12 no. 1 not easy but not that difficult if you find the tricks

hope this helps
Learning:

Chopin Polonaise Op. 53
Brahms Op. 79 No. 2
Rachmaninoff Op. 16 No. 4 and 5
