Playing hurts brachioradialis muscle
on: August 16, 2011, 03:11:07 PM
So I think my hand is relaxed and fingers as well as they are arched and playing seems easy, but after few minutes my brachioradialis muscle especially in my right arm start to hurt.

Is this normal when you start playing piano or am I doing something wrong when it comes to posture? My back is straight, shoulders and arms relaxed.

If the muscle starts hurting, clearly your arms are not as relaxed as you think. I'd spend more time practising ultra-slow and pay extremely close attention to the sense of balance between key depressions- as well as to ensuring that you do not produce sound by pressing with the arm.

A little reply to this issue since it's been some time since I started this topic.

I don't suffer from this and the main reason was that I put too much tension onto my fingers. I started paying more attention on how my hand and fingers are used and got rid of the pain. Thank you nyiregyhazi for your advice. I did take it slower and only tehn I found the cause of my problem.
