on: August 21, 2011, 06:46:40 AM
Hi

I decided that i wanna try to learn piano , because i love the sound and looks rly fun to play.

So im looking for a very good beginner keyboard ( Budget depends on what you guys suggest )
I want it to have a piano sound on it , like i want it to sound like a piano :D

Im using this in my freetime , Not concerts and stuff just home ^^
I would love to play modern music like Apologize and stuff , more pop music i would say ^^

Bear in mind that a digital keyboard is a completely is a different instrument from a piano or digital piano. A digital piano is effectively a digital instrument that is trying to be as much like a real piano as possible. The more money you spend, the better it is at imitating a real piano; you can spend up to £5000 on a top-of-the-range Yamaha Clavinova. There are a few digital pianos at around £600, such as the Yamaha P85 or Korg SP250 which would be good to start on. You may also be able to pick up a second hand acoustic piano for that price, but that depends on whether it will fit in your home. I think that's pretty much the minimum you can spend to get started on piano.

If it's a digital keyboard you're after, beginner ones start at around £100 (I got a second hand Casio keyboard for £30 from eBay). It is a different instrument from a piano though and you play it in a completely different way: you play the tune in the right hand and just hold down the notes of the chord in the left and it fills in an accompaniment and drum beat for you. It's a useful instrument to get started with music if you don't have the money for a piano, or if you want to completely focus on pop music. It's also useful for songwriting as it's easy to start learning chords and you can explore the different voices and accompaniment styles.

Hi Ryztad,
You've get yourself in the middle of a long lasting discussion when you talk to piano players about keyboards.
It all depends on how one looks at it. Most people will tell you that they're different instruments and in many ways that's true. The key to note relation is the same. The sound can be very close depending on the keyboard or digital used. I have a digital piano that sounds exactly like an acoustic. What the difference most people agree on is the feel and response of the actual piano.
With that being said I take it you just want to learn how to play. Congrats on your choice.
As far as an instrument to get that depends on your choice. A keyboard would be the way to go for nothing else it's a lot more affordable. Start out slow and low to see if it's for you. There's a lot of choices out there that vary in size, capabilities and price. I'll include a link to where I shop  https://www.musiciansfriend.com/

Amazon.com has a good selection of beginner keyboards too.
Good luck,

Here's a beginner keyboard a friend's son has. Not to pricey and sounds decent....
https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-YPG-235-Portable-Graded-Action-Keyboard/dp/B003FVB7XA/ref=sr_1_4?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1313970780&sr=1-4

This is one of the keyboards I use. With the right amp it sounds good...

If you shop around, stay away from lighted keyboards.

A very nice digital. I've played on one of those. I just assumed that you were looking for low cost. But if price is not that big of a concern check this one out. I tend to go for this one....
https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/stagepianos/cp/cp5/?mode=model

I have this one: https://www.musiciansfriend.com/keyboards-midi/yamaha-cp50-88-key-stage-piano

If I was spending that much for a Korg, I'd go for a Motif or a CP series Yamaha instead. But that's me...

Yep. It's new. Amazon gives you the option of buying it used, which are returns, but the one showing is new. Keep in mind that you need an amp if you choose to play for others to hear.
It has headphone capability only...

If you go with Korg. I used to play a Triton when we used to do M. Jackson stuff. Great sounds but on the high end of price...

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
