Hey everyone!

-What’s your biggest problem with practicing piano?

Just thought I’d put the question out there, so that we could help each other overcome our challenges. If we see another member’s problem that we know how to solve, or have solved in the past, we can reply to their thread and help them out. Hopefully someone will do the same for our problem’s as well!
So let’s get posting everyone! We can use this thread to help out our fellow members, and also get guidance from other members in turn. Let’s see how many fellow members we can help! =D

My biggest obstacle would be keeping structure. I tend to just practice when I feel like it...

Same problem here too, made more complicated by when the room with the piano isn't in use.  If it is, I have to go use my synth, which is not as fun to practice on.

Bach: French Suite #5 in G,
Chopin: Andante Spianato,
Chopin: Nocturne F#m, Op 15 #2

Me too. Although I feel like practising the piano a lot, so it isn't always a bad thing.
My obstacle I guess is practising what I don't feel like practising. Depending on my mood, I don't always feeling practising certain things. Today, I was really into practising my scales and my prelude and fugue (which both need a ton of work), but I didn't even want to touch my nocturnes (which need a lot of work too). If I continue to let this happen, I could probably practise that prelude and fugue all day for two weeks straight while ignoring everything else, then get tired of it and realize that all my other pieces are terrible.

My biggest problem is patience.  I want to much to improve quickly much as I realise that this is not the way you progress...

Whenever I go to the local music school to practice, I always see at least one person I know and so I go visit their practice room and neither of us get any practice done...

But when I do get practice done.. Feeling to lazy to think while I practice..

The Problem is having NO Problem..Ha ..not true....

I have a fascination for technical studies and I can spend hours doing nothing else!
Before I realize it..I've spent 3 or 4 hours on these and there is no time for repetoire.

I have discovered "new" studies by Terrence Rust and have added them to my list.  I spend an hour on Maier's exercises which really do help, an hour or so on Dohnanyi's Essential Finger Exercises...challenging.  and 1 hour on Scale/Arrpegio (all major and minor) then now another hour on the new studies by T. Rust.  .sooooooo...  I do these consistently..not here and there

I think of Busoni who took a whole year off to study nothing but Technique ..at the height of his powers. ...but then I am not in that league so... :-\

Thanks jimbo320!  ;D

Ok awesome discussion guys! Does anyone have any great ways to motivate themselves to practice the piano? I know what you mean by not feeling like practising sometimes.

I personally find piano lessons themselves often motivate me to play. I feel like it's a waste of money if I'm paying for lessons but not practising, and that often gets me going!

I usually go watch some youtube videos, or a DVD from a band I like.
