Something scary/dramatic yet not too difficult
on: August 26, 2011, 06:12:19 PM
Hi

Again I am looking for something to play (your last suggestions were exclent btw.). This time I was wondering if there is something like Liszt Dance Macabre or ... Saint-Saens Dance Macabre (Liszt transcriptions from violin is excelent) but ... more aproachable for beginner (let's say grade <=5,6).

I mean scary, kind of creepy/horroric, dramatic, maybe with some heavy beats almost like I want to kill the piano (well - ok, thats depends on intepretation, everything can be played with heavy hand, but not everything sounds good this way:). It shouldn't be too fast (beginner here) and rather not in Nocturnes or Satie Gnosienne/Gynopedie mood. And it better be classical music (not soundtrack from Buffy the Vampire Slayer smile

Any suggestions?

Marcin

Mozarts fantasia in d minor K.397 is a good on to try.Don't know what grade it would be,but has drama and suspence. I don't know what level your at so give it a listen and see if it suits your need.

Try Brahm's Rhapsody in g minor op 79. no. 2. If played well it can be really passionate and dramatic, it almost has this sound of "death" about it. It's not that difficult either.

and 24 why not.

Prelude no 24 with those scales and thirds and left hand and stuff is not the first thing I would recommend under the criteria "not too difficult"

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
