Performer's Resource
on: August 30, 2011, 07:21:37 AM
Hi everyone.

I have an idea for a website which allows musicians to post a link of an audio recording and brief text about the piece played. The main benefit is to allow performers or students of music to get some feedback.

It also allows fellow musicians to be inspired, to gain ideas (of repertoire), enjoy original performances, etc.

The website shows posts in reverse chronological order and you can filter the posts according to your preferred genre (e.g. romantic piano, or modern alternative rock, or jazz, etc)

If anyone would like this resource made, or have any opinions, I would love to hear them.

I think it is a good idea. Yes, we have the Audition Room here, but most recordings do not get a lot of comments.
I think it will be better to have a place where people specifically go to comment and get comments on recordings.
General info:
Started playing music in the summer of 2010
Plays on a Bechstein B
Lives in Denmark

yes I should have mentioned - I intend the resource to be available to all musicians (not just pianists). it also would be in a layout that allows better access. Forums are a bit slow and not easily searchable.

I've visited a lot of sites and I think pianostreet.com is the best.  I think the reason the forums aren't easily searchable is because they go back years and years and there is a wealth of info hidden away somewhere.  I think there should be a weeding out of extraneous and senseless posts:  most dramatic piece ever written, favorite concerto, etc. etc etc.  Maybe not immediately, but after maybe a 6 months or a year.

This is one of those times I hate myself for having poor memory.

About three to five months ago I was searching around the net for other piano forums and I encountered a site that has a specific rule: "members should give feedback to submitted recordings". It went so far as to have a counter on one's reviews of other recordings to keep track of his/her participation. IIRC there was also a FAQ in which this rule was explained. Something like: "this should be done to prevent a lopsided community where many post their recordings but do not give back to the community by reviewing the work of others."

I don't get around much in the internet piano community. I hope someone here remembers the site I mentioned. Most probably they're a lot more experienced in what you want to accomplish and you can pattern your site to theirs.

BTW, why I ignored the site and passed through it? I don't think I can satisfy that kind of commitment. (possible disadvantage of that rule)
