Beginner: Daily Practice, Help Please
on: September 04, 2011, 04:27:23 PM
Hi,

I knew I probably should have posted this in 'Student Corner' but I do hope to get some distinguishment from the messy topics there. I'm learning piano in a really serious way and I always want to achieve what's perfect. but I've met some trouble recently that has frustrated me quite a lot. I desperately hope to get some judgements and advices from here, anything helpful and supportative will do me a favor indeed.

This is truly embarrassing as it's just some random daily practice that I recorded as a habit. It's too careless and immature, I feel extremely sorry for being so indecent, but this is almost the best I am at for the moment(among what are recorded), I'm still unable to play a piece in a perfect and complete way. :-[

Any comment will be much appreciated. Much thanks!

To help with this post, here's another post with my problems stated out that you may be interested to have a read.https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php?topic=42988.msg470982#msg470982 =]

Hi Ethure, welcome to pianostreet :)

I think you're not at all on a bad way, practicing-wise. But you necessarily need two things, at this stage: 1. A lot of patience (with yourself) and 2. A good teacher.

Thanks so much for the reply!  The stuff I uploaded is really embarrassing, I can guess out why you say I need patience. I'm indeed having a hard time concerntrating on practice these days. and As for the teacher, hehe, I've indeed got a great teacher. but I kind of have some communication problem with her, that's where I said I was much frustrated recently. I think I'll make a new post about that in 'Student Corner' later. It's getting really severe.

Actually I don't think it's embarrassing. It's a picture of the stage you are at. There's nothing wrong with this!
In my experience all that has to do with gaining coordination, fluency, independence of the hands and fingers can actually be a lot of fun as long as we accept it as a necessary stage and allow ourselves to take our time with it, explore music, discover, and just repeat, repeat, repeat and try again, no matter how many times we're wrong. Of course, don't repeat mechanically, but with thoughts and feelings, and learning by doing :)

It is not embarrassing because everyone who starts out in piano sound like similar. You just had the balls to record it for everyone to listen too :)

You want to start learning how to problem solve your pauses now. Is it because you are unsure of the notation, notes, rhythm, fingering etc,? Mark your music and learn to be as efficient and quick at solving your own problems.

Get a knowledgeable teacher....is the best advice anyone on here can give you.

You want to also get the tempo speed up so the piece can become more recognizable. It would be best to start by doing it hands separately and making sure you can play, preferably with a metronome, accurately. When you start putting both hands together, you may start slow and gradually play with both or play and "drop notes in the LH " By that I mean play the piece together and add a note one by one and restarting every time you play accurately.

Of course this all assuming your technique is solid and that would be best assessed by a piano teacher watching you as you play. Of course there is much more a piano teacher can do to help you out with your goals but I hope that gives you some things to think about.
