Beethoven Sonata No 11 Op 22
on: September 08, 2011, 07:22:06 AM
This is not one of B's most popular sonatas (maybe because it is more difficult than it appears - as opposed to many pieces that appear more difficult than they are...) but it is surely one of the most cheerful. Some of it comes right out of Italian opera. I played it a few weeks ago at the incredibly beautiful church of Saint-Merri, in Paris. Here are the four parts.

Hi Ariel,

Bravo!  I listened to the entire sonata.  Your playing was thoughtful and brilliant--a really splendid performance overall.  Congratulations!  Your parents and teacher must be very proud of you.

I remember when you were a little kid standing up and leaning slightly against the edge of the bench in order to play the piano.   (Doesn't seem like all that long ago really.)  You're growing up fast, and your musicianship and artistry continue to develop too.  I predict that you will go very far in the world of music.  Keep up the fine work!

David

Thanks for your comment, David (and for the forbearance to hear the entire sonata). The period you mention seems like a very long time ago. People used to cut me a lot more slack. I'm on to Janacek and Ravel.

Hello Ariel!!

We have listened to the 4 movements at YT .... not realizing you posted it here in PS. I must say
you captured very well a lot of the cheerfulness of the sonata.  You have matured well as a pianist and as an artist.  best wishes...
