Grieg's Holberg Suite - question re octaves in Praeludium
on: September 14, 2011, 10:49:07 PM
Hello...
Trying to learn this piece (Grieg, Opus 40, No. 1), I have listened to a number of recordings on YouTube, including that of Eva Knardahl, known as a Grieg interpreter. In m. 17 and 64, the LH D octaves sound as if they are played as broken octaves (not sure of correct terminology here), apparently from top to bottom. I have looked at several scores (Henle, Peters) and can't find any notation to indicate that these should be anything other than regular octaves. I would appreciate direction to any scores that have the broken octave indicated -- or any information about what how you have played or heard this played.
Thank you...
