Piano and orchestra sonanta?
on: September 17, 2011, 03:26:51 AM
Hi everyone,

The orchestra in which I play in on a different instrument is hosting auditions for instrument solo concertos, and I wanted to audition on piano! Does anyone know of any good sonantas (not over 10 minutes)?

I am currently working on the original, one piano Rhapsody in Blue to let you know my level, and have been playing for over a decade.

You should look up the Sonanta No. 3 by Wolfram Fakenburg. Or do you already play that one?

Can Beethoven's Pathetique be played with an orchestra? Is there some sort of version?

I think he was pulling your leg!   ;D  First of all it's "sonata"  and it's commonly called a concerto when a solo instrument plays with an orchestra.
That's a hard piece, the rhapsody in blue for solo piano.  Harder then the original with orchestra!
Something in 10 minutes is difficult to find unless you choose an early mozart, one movement.  Maybe the grieg, first movement?  Or play part of the rhapsody.  LIke I said it's easier to play then the solo arrangement

Are you sure you play in a professional orchestra?  That question is WAY out field.   :o

haha, I'm such a sucker :)
That would be a good idea though, just playing part of the rhapsody. Do you know where I could get the sheet music for just the piano part?
No, my orchestra isn't professional, just an orginasation. But I like to think we're pretty good  :P
