New in the Forum

Hello Piano street.
This is my first time in this forum. Since English is not my mother language i do hope you will understand my writing.
One week ago i bought my first instrument ever. It is a Korg SP-250 digital piano or keyboard.
It is ok to learn on i think.
I have never ever played on a piano before. So this is going to be exciting to see if i can learn this.
When i say learn i mean that i will be able to play simple melodies at home. Just for fun and no intention to perform on a stage.
Since i live in the forrest my teacher will be the internet. I have been searching, reading and looking at videos on youtube.
I have to admit that i am not sure where to begin.
What i have done is try to get my fingers to work. So since i bought the Piano i have been playing a scale with both right hand, left hand and both together. From c to g. Both ways. Slow is easy but fast is another thing. Then i try to learn how to continue with my hand/fingers all the way up and then back again.
But since this is my first time i do have to say it is not easy. But i have no intention to give up. I am patient and have 2-3 hours a day to practice if i like. I have learned the 12 first notes on Beethoven Fur Elise. But to be honest that might be a bit to much the first week.
I feel like the slowest learner ever lived.
Ok, if you have good tips about what to do, or not to then i am open for suggestions.
Thanks

Lasse

Welcome to the forum Lasse,
Tell me which on-line sites you use so I don't give you one you already use. Don't let your age hinder you, I'm 60 yrs young and started teaching myself only three years ago...

What to do:  Seriously peruse this forum, especially posts from years ago.  Do a search on various topics and see what you get!  There's *loads* of information stowed away here.

What not to do:  Neglect my advice above.

Jimbo320 and m1469
Thank your for the nice reply. I do not feel that 49 year is a negative thing to learn new skills. So no worry about that.
Yes m1469 i belive that there are a lot of good information in this forum.
I have started to look into it.
I try to keep my brakes on a bit because this is so fun that i could play the scales
and learn about how to play 24 hours a day.

Best regards

Lasse

Well last week i was more lucky than i could hope for.
A piano teacher from my area moved back from Germany after
teaching there several years. She is starting a piano school 5 min
from were i live.
So i respond on here ad in the newspaper. When i cam down to here
she was playing on a Grand piano.
This was a Steinway & Son, same that is is Carnegie hall.
I was blown away, both with here playing and from the sound
of here piano.
So i am going to take lessons with here 40 min once a week.
I feel like a kid on Christmas day.
But that is not before 2 weeks. Please give me some tips for an easy
way to learn finger technique and scales.

Thanks

Lasse :)

Hi Lasse,

Welcome to the forums. I am sure you will find lot of support and valuable information here.

My suggestion at the moment is simple - I have created a piano course that is free and gives everyone a possibility to learn basic piano technique and theory thoroughly.
I invite you to join and have a look.

Best wishes,
Jaak

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
