Time Capsule
on: September 21, 2011, 02:58:34 AM
I think we should create a thread that is a time capsule for this forum, and once we've got what we want in it, we should lock it and let it get buried and then look at it in 20 years
.
What legendary types of things should go in here?
*Puts Bob right in, head first*

*thinks that would result in a full moon*
Ugh.. I ate too much. *considers another use for m1469's time capsule*
The whole forum is a time capsule. Everyone's asymmetrical conversations frozen in time.
Bleh.... *starts planning path and notes location of garbage can*
I've only been here since 2004, about 7.5 years now.
Something seems messed up on the forum tonight. Pages aren't loading that fast. My posts are displaying. I checked my connection... I don't think it's me...

Will this site still be around in 20 years? 2031?
Twenty years ago was 1992. Imagine what the internet and computers will be like then. Waaaaay more powerful. Much more slick I would imagine. The form of a computer will probably be different -- Maybe all wireless, maybe even holograms instead of a monitor.
And would the site be copied along the whole way? Including the stuff from back here? I could see Nils starting a new version of the forum but I wonder if he'd copy all the old info too, although it's still useful.

(Snails thread)
Even though littletune's couple-a snails were really nice!
Bob, I can't believe you edited your first post in the snails thread.

That's because it's not the original snail thread. It was an improvised snail thread, an IST. The other one is around somewhere.
*Bob pictures 20 years later... A skeleton of Bob, dust left from the food... Or no, Bob would have eaten that, so just a skeleton, and... amazing electronics or something that has withstood 20 years and still functions.... which would also need a modern day computer that will still function 20 years in the future, which is getting really doubtful... There are "stone DVDs" I heard about that are supposed to last for a long, long time, but you still need something to read them. Maybe they'll still have some technology to read whatever the forum materials are left in -- Unless the forum materials are printed out, or etched into stone. Then 20 years is easy.*

Thanks m1469!!
Yessss the snails thread!!!
hmmm... Bob?... you are planning to be a skeleton in 20 years?!
Yes we should print everything so it doesn't get deleted! So that after like 200 years they can write a book and make a movie about all of us!!!!!
... and then we watch it as someone else in our future lives and then we remember everything!!!

If I was stuck in a sealed time capsule for 20 years, yes. Maybe I would just be mummified in that situation though.
