Practice schedule advice (and first post)
on: September 23, 2011, 05:49:13 PM
So I spent a few hours reading these forums and decided to go ahead and get gold membership for a year. I think that states my first impressions of these forums (and all the extra bells and whistles) quite clearly.
But, to the point, I was reading some posts from bernhard and realized that I've been practicing quite wrongly up until now. So, I've put together a list of sessions and would like feedback if anyone is so inclined. I plan on playing these throughout the day, making sure to take breaks between individual sessions.
Warm-up Sessions (for when I'm planning on playing at least 3 or more sessions)
Hanon exercises 1-16 (and try to add one every few days) Edit: After reading some about Hanon exercises I think I might try moving gradually to some Bach pieces once I learn enough to give my fingers a good exercise
Czerny 1-2 (and more when I learn them)
Scales and arpeggios
Sessions for new music
Arabasque I by Debussy (first two pages until I get them down)
Mazurka by Liszt (it's almost ready)
Rhapsody in G by Brahms (I butchered my way through this in a recital back in high school but want to learn it the way it's meant to be played)
<Haven't started but I want to learn a song a higher level piece by liszt, recommendations welcome>
Bach Invention #1
Songs from the wall by Pink Floyd
Misc. sessions
Perfecting Prelude in C# minor by Rachmaninoff
Perfecting Minute Waltz by Chopin
Playing the few other songs I know (Fur Elise, Reverie, Nocturne in Eb Maj Op 9. No 2, Waltz by Chopin (don't remember the details))
Studying a Jazz composition book and trying some simple composition
I realize a lot of that is pretty vague, but I just wanted to start with an outline. I'll try to refine it more as I see how it works. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to comment.
