Clementi's op24 no.2 1st movt....cadenza
on: October 10, 2011, 08:15:12 AM
Although the editor of my copy of this piece advises not to play a cadenza at the end of the movement, my student has prepared a short one with a little hint of Mozart's Magic Flute  overture. Now he wants to play it at his exam and I'm a little apprehensive!! Any advice?

One of my students did an improvistory section of the same piece using the opening motive and took his exam with it. It went well. Highly praised.

As an examiner myself, I enjoy students showing imagination and creativity. The cadenza was suggested by Clementi himself. Therefore, go for it!
