Christmas Sheets!
on: October 19, 2011, 12:55:00 AM
When are you pulling yours out to start playing? My teacher got me a new book and I found this one version of What Child Is This. I'm in love. :D

I'm going to seriously start working on them the being of November, but my teacher said I can mess around with them until then and see which ones I want to learn. : )

I don't know what level you are, but my teacher got "In Recital, With Christmas Favorites" for me and I love it! It has some really pretty arrangements. It's book 4 and it's like an intermediate level.

I  selections from the Taneyev complete transcription which is probably more difficult than Tchaikovsky's suite, but the full ballet transcription gives us piano access to some of the really charming segments not included in the shorter more commonly performed compilation. Although techincially more difficult in many parts, we get the full orchestration detail and are well rewarded muscially for our efforts to pull the music out (since this is what many ballet schools/companies would have used to rehearse since they having an orchestra for all practices would be so impractical but they still needed to be able to hear the closest representation tot he performance version of the music as possible.).

I like the Charlie Brown Christmas book for my students.  The arrangements are simplified but can easily be "beefed" up.  It is like a fake book but with a bass clef-- and a very simple LH.

this is me playing "A Christmas Song"  and it is beefed up a bit.
