Arab-like pieces for the repertoire?
on: October 21, 2011, 04:48:35 AM
Hey,

I wonder if anyone could suggest me some piano solo works with an 'Arab-like' feel to them. You know, something more or less along the lines of Albéniz's 'Malagueña'.

Cheers,

Bartok's Transylvanian Song and Ruthenian Kolomejka from Songs and Dances and Walachian Song from the Petite Suite have a modal, vaguely Arabic type sound to them.

Islamey by Balakirev, but it is rather hard. ;)

If you go to IMSLP and do a search on the word Arabe you will find quite a list of pieces:

To mosis: yes, I do, and, yes, I have  ;) And somehow that doesn't seem to me to be any reason why I shouldn't want to get to know some more similar pieces.
