On-the-side music assignments in class
on: September 03, 2004, 10:16:56 PM
Hello everyone,
Just wondering... aside from teaching piano repertoire and theory (which is a handful already and usually takes up the full class-time) have any of you ever given out extra assignments that they do at home? Not talking about an essay or short activity on paper, but perhaps little projects.... like....create your own life-size staff, where you can remove notes on and off with velcrow.... something like that...
If so, please share your ideas with me: creative, helpful, effective, fun, etc. ?
thank you!

So often, creative and fun aren't helpful and effective. I wouldn't have them do any project that might take away from their practice time. If you wish to motivate them, take them to a concert.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
