2 Mystery Works on Old LP
on: October 26, 2011, 06:54:46 PM
A few years ago I came across an old LP in a thrift store, labelled "Miklos Schwalb : Concert Encores" and bought it just for fun. It appears to be from the 1950's, and features a number of well-known classical favorites. Two works, however, are unfamiliar to me and appear to have been mislabeled on the LP and jacket. I would love to find the scores for them, but without a positive ID I really can't do much.
So I've digitized the two works and uploaded them for your analysis (there is no copyright on the LP)....
Work #1

This is labeled as "Mozkowski : Etude", and does sound like a Mozkowski work, but I am certain it is not one of his Etudes.
Work #2

Labeled as "Field : Rondo". It does not specify which Field wrote it, the only one I can find is John Field. He did write a Rondo but it is for piano and orchestra, and is completely different.
Someone might recognize these pieces right away, but I've never heard them before so I assume recordings of them are not very common. Recordings of Schwalb in general seem to be quite scarce.
Have fun, and thanks for any help.
