Inspiring piano music.
on: October 26, 2011, 10:52:17 PM
First and foremost I apologise if I am posting in the wrong place. I am not necessarily a pianist though I would love to be one day. I am more of an electronic music producer. I am posting here because I have a question relating to a particular kind of piano music.
I am looking for inspiring piano music that is very modern to listen to and hopefully inspire me to learn. The trouble is that I find a lot of traditional piano music very difficult to attach to and I struggle to have the patience required to become competent at playing. I have basic reading and playing ability but i'd rather challenge myself to learn something I really enjoy.
Here are some examples of the sound I love!
Music from a Final Fantasy game.

No idea what this music is or who wrote it, but I could listen to the short loop over and over!
Any albums, composers or artists you could recommend I'd really appreciate! Even if you want to tell me to go to another website...
Many Thanks!
Jack

jack, welcome! yeah man that music's pretty rad. there's a lot of great music written for our instrument, half the fun is the discovery.
spend some time on this site, he makes the scores available for free and has many youtube videos of lots of the works. he's a pretty talaneded pianist, arranger and teacher, his transcriptions in general are very good and i think you'll find much to like here:

Thanks thats Great!
Guitar was my first instrument But i do more work playing keyboards now.
The piano is such a great instrument, It can create any feeling or emotion, in a way that synths and guitars just don't!
Many thanks.

Go to zohar002's channel on youtube. His arrangements of video game music are absolutely amazing and partly inspired me to delve into music and the piano. (You can get a link to his sheets on his youtube channel).
Another source of inspiration is the Piano Collections from Final Fantasy X. Masashi Hamauzu co-composed and arranged the wonderful music in Final Fantasy X and has a masterful touch with arranging the music onto piano as well! (You can get sheets from online for these too).
Last but not least I would check out my friend Aivi Tran and her youtube channel. She plays, arranges, and composes music and even has sheets on her blog. (just google Aivi Tran to get to the blog) Super sorry I don't have any links for the sources above but I am on a 3ds at the moment and not a computer!
Anyway, I wish you luck finding inspiration, and hope you come to love the piano and its magnificent repetoir as much as I do!
