VIDEO Chopin Etude Op.10 No.4 in C sharp minor
on: October 29, 2011, 10:14:19 PM
Hi everyone,
Here is my performance of this Chopin etude. For some strange reason, the mics didn't record the FFFs as they should have.
I hope you like it,
Jason

The etude is played at an appropriate tempo, although it can be played a little bit faster. appropriate dynamics.

Hi. Don't be mislead into trying to up the tempo on this until you have it well in control.
This if one of the few Chopin pieces where he treats the left hand almost as a second right hand. The left hand really must be as clear and controlled as the right hand. Both in terms of accuracy , but also in terms of hand control. Another thing about this etude is the obvious need to place the thumb on black notes. The performer needs to be especially careful of there control as they come off of the Thumb on these black notes. This etude is quite a storm of force and carries you along in a whirl wind to the end. It is like being thrown off a cliff and smashing into the rocks below. There is no chance to breath or relax as you rush head long forward, and yet you must be relaxed and in control at all times, though the music gives the listener the impression you are not.
In listening to this as it is, I am not hearing the clarity to truly show the piece off. I realize that you are obviously in the learning stage with this etude and that can lasts for years in some cases . I think you have most of the technique and skill as a musician to round this piece into fine artistic and technical shape , if you give yourself a chance to grow into it.
I look forward to hearing this again as you gain more control and the piece continues to grow in its performance. Keep practicing and keep gaining insight .
