Prelude for Piano No. 2 (my own composition)
on: November 01, 2011, 10:07:13 PM
Dear all,
I finished this prelude today. I will call it "No 2" for now, but when I finished the cycle, (maybe 6 pieces total, we'll see) then I will decide the order.
My own recording.
P.S. I started a prelude for the left hand alone.

Not for beginner that is for sure, but very nice. Your use of harmony was delicious. Made me want to jump right into the middle of the music.

Wonderful little prelude! I hear Sergei Bortkiewicz in it.
Look forward to hearing more.

Hi furiousz,
Excellent! Whenever I hear contemporary music that is neo-romantic style like this, it gives me joy that the great tradition is still alive and well. You've created a lush prelude here, lyrical with beautiful and unexpected harmonies. There was a hint of Scriabin I think. Great work!

speaking of Scriabin, I am familiar with some of his techniques, and I will use a sequence in my next prelude, where the bass leaps down a tritone, and the chain produces a whole tone scale going down.
Not descending 5ths, but descending tritones. This only works when you add a 2, and 6 to the 7th chord, you have the option of keeping the 5, or making it an augmented 4th. At any rate, the dissonances that are not resolved actually are carried over to the next chord, where they become new dissonances.
for example - bass notes: C, F#, B-flat, E, etc.

struggling with the form of it. I completed the the first 2 phrases (total of 8 measures), that is the A section. Then, another section with the bass tritones sequence, 3 - 2 measures groups, and then a 2 measure linked passage, so also a total of 8 measures.
Then a recap of the first 4 measures, and the second phrase of that will be different.
