Chopin's Op. 9 No. 1 too advanced for me right now?
on: November 09, 2011, 01:37:17 AM
I just finished memorizing Op. 9 No. 2 and it's the most beautiful piece I've ever played.  It's also the most advanced piece I've learned - except for the Raindrop Prelude, but I cheat on a lot of the pedaling, so that one isn't nearly as refined.

I took a look at Op. 9 No. 1 and the 11- and 22-tuplets against the left hand have be confused.  I know it's nearly an even division of rhythm, just one less note than what would make it normal, but it's still a little complicated!  The left hand also has quite a big reach, but with pedal I'm sure it can be tackled.

Is this a reasonable piece to learn right now?  I'll be taking up lessons again (yay!) in the beginning of next year, but I want something new and fresh to learn until then.  If the Op. 9 No. 2 is any indication, I think Chopin's nocturnes are going to be some of my favorite pieces ever to play.

I don't know what you're repertoire is like but I would suggest changing things up a bit.. I look at mine and it's 70% Chopin and then a song by Rachmaninoff and a song by Debussy and I sort of wish I had a wider variety.
You may have noticed that I'm not all there myself

NO I don't think it is too hard for you. You said that you ahve played nocturne op9no2 and that is approximately 8th grade even though it says 7th grade in PS. The Chopin nocturne op9no1 is around associate level so therefore it shouldn't be too difficult for you.
Funny? How? How am I funny?
