Effortless thumb action in scales/making a big tone
on: November 09, 2011, 03:56:34 AM
just written a new post, specifically about actions of the thumb. If anyone's been put off by scientific background to my other posts, this one is purely about practical issues and gets right into playing itself:

Regarding scales, you may be surprised to learn that it's not yet another thumb under/over argument. Rather, it's an exercise that provides a simple means to lighten up the ease of movement- by engaging the thumb properly.

Thanks!  I'm going to read that in depth tomorrow because I'm trying to play more relaxed and that thumb sure makes a big sound!  Xmas music is on now.  Favorite part of Xmas is the music!

Do let me know of any thoughts. I'd be very interested in whether the movements of your thumb feel notably different, after you'd done the exercises.

I've printed it out and it looks like it's going to take awhile, but I did flunk the first test where you put your hand on the table.   More involved than I realized.  I'll let you know when I've done the whole thing.
