Chopin Polonaise Op.40, No.1 "Military"
on: November 12, 2011, 02:19:32 AM

     Greetings everyone,

I know this polonaise is probably the most famous piece in this category by Chopin. I love this polonaise and hold it dear to me. Especially because I've been to Poland many times and fell in love with it and possibly got a glimpse as to why Chopin was so patriotic. I don't blame him at all. I decided to put this recording because we are now celebrating the Polish Independence day. A day which Chopin have always wished to have seen! Let you please listen to it and your opinions are highly appreciated. Let us all try to enjoy music for the sake of music :) !

As so often in Polonaise interpretations I miss the "hold back"- feeling! Sometimes you have it, but you are often shortening the dotted notes, sometimes they almost sound like triplets! Try to prolong them, better too long than too short! The fire and passion in a Polonaise (similarly to a Bolero, Tango and some Flamenco styles) doesn't come from speed but from the rhythmic precision and suspension!

I agree with Pianowolf. It feels a bit rushed or pushed forward, even though if I tap my foot, you're actually playing pretty steadily. Sit back and be more "regal"   ;)

Great job with this piece, though!
